The Arches BLOG

All at The Arches are opening on the last Friday of the month in September and October. In November, we are celebrating 20 years (!) in The Arches and will be holding our Winter Open Studios weekend - doing lots of fantastic things to celebrate.

It has been a great year with new artists joining us and lots of new work being made. Being part of the South London Art Map has been fantastic, and we have been open every Last Friday of the month since it started. It has also been a year of some downs with the riots just down the road and we would like to do all we can for the community we have lived and worked in for so long by having a great Christmas celebration, and keeping Peckham on the map in a very positive way! We have lots planned that we would like to share with you.

The theme of our anniversary is 20:20.
Each artist this year is making 20 special limited edition items which they will sell for only £20 as a thank you to our customers and community.

We are also each donating a unique piece of work for a grand raffle (charity to be decided). [#]

All the doors of the many Arch studios have been firmly wedged open during this lovely weather - chairs and tables dusted off and set out so we can chat over a coffee or share lunch outside - a welcome change to the closed in feeling of winter. There is so much exciting new work being made and it feels great to be part of such a thriving artistic community.

Last Fridays are a great addition to our calendar, some set out their spaces and some of us carry on working. It is easier to do than the open weekends and lots of people have been coming along.

All this activity is very inspiring and I have starting making some very large ceramic work which hopefully will be ready for the open studios 24th June - 26th June .
